Competition Rules

Connacht GAA Post Primary Schools Competitions- General Rules for 2013/14

1) All correspondence for schools will go out via email to your official GAA School email address.

2) All matches will be played on or before the fixture date listed. All fixtures are listed on the Connacht GAA Schools website http://schools.connacht.gaa.ie/

3) In exceptional circumstances matches may have to be postponed. This can only be done on agreement by both Schools and contacting the Connacht GAA Office by emailing a new date to reception.connacht@gaa.ie

Unfulfilled games will be declared null and void once the final round of league competitions are played.

4) Results to be notified to the Connacht GAA Office immediately after the match by the designated home team, (first team listed), via email to reception.connacht@gaa.ie or by phone 0949630335

5) Final position in the league/championship will be decided in accordance with Rule 6.22(5) T.O. 2010

As League is linked to chmapionship in Senior A, Senior B and Junior C, all games in the final round to be played on the date scheduled, any games not played to the final round of fixtures will be declared null and void.

6) If home venue is not available for home matches, teams must travel to opponent’s venue.

7) All schools must have a Staff Member in charge of their team

8) Referees must be paid before the start of all matches, the €40 fee to be shared by the two schools

9) It is the responsibility of all players to wear mouth guards- No Mouth guard- No Game

10) Participating schools are responsible for the behaviour of their players, managers and supporters.

11) Particular attention and respect for club property and club personnel where matches are played should be a priority.

12) Rules regarding discipline and playing games as per Official Guide, except for 1st Year Juvenile, where there will be no limit to the number of substitutes used.

Senior

Born on/after 1/6/1995 and before 1/6/1999 years of age

Junior

Born on/after 1/6/1997 and before 1/6/2001 years of age

Juvenile

 Born on/after 1/6/1999

14) PLC Students are not eligible to play in Post Primary Competitions.

15) Match Days for Connacht Colleges Football Competitions.

Monday- Junior

Wednesday- Senior

Thursday- 1st Year

Friday- Juvenile


Playing Rules- Football Competitions

  • 1st & Juvenile Competitions-  Unlimited substitutions are allowed on the referee's permission and only permitted in a break in play. 
  • 1st Year- The Goalkeeper has the option of taking the kickout from the ground or his hands. 
  • A size 5 Football to be used in all grades except 1st Year where a Size 4 football should be used. 
  • In the Small Schools competitions, all games to be played on 13-a-side basis, however if both teams agree 15-a-side may be played.
